Community Service Council (CSC)
Mission:  To provide leadership for community-based planning and mobilization of resources to best meet health and human service needs

__________________________________________

Hello!  As President of the Community Service Council, I would like to greet you and thank you for helping make our progress possible.

The 2010 Friends of the Council campaign is now under way.  I hope you'll follow these links to find out how you can help, how Tulsans from all walks of life benefit from our work, and the main things the Council accomplished last year with your help.  Click on this link to view a special message (please be sure your computer’s speakers are on).

As always, we truly appreciate all the great work and support of our Board, staff, community partners, funders, and Friends of the Council.  We are counting on your continued involvement as we work together to meet the challenges of 2010 and beyond.

Sincerely,
Jill Willey

Since 1941 the Community Service Council (CSC) has served as a unique resource for collaborative community-based planning and action to prevent and address health and human service needs in Tulsa and northeastern Oklahoma.

CSC is a trusted neutral convener, bringing diverse organizations and interests together to focus on a common good.  CSC guides community efforts to identify, understand, and address conditions, trends, and needs impacting our area's quality of life and future.  CSC works to prevent problems and to improve human service systems and the policies and funding which affect them.

Functions include community research and planning, trend analysis, data for decision-making, policy and resource planning, mobilizing community action, supporting community partnerships, developing and coordinating services and systems, and linking people with needed services.  Activities include study groups, data reports, research and recommendations for action, resource development, developing pilot/demonstration projects, coalitions and task forces, conferences, training and consultation, service provider networking and support, resource centers, policy partnerships, public policy advocacy, service databases and directories, and telephone information and referral services.

CSC provides leadership and processes for organizations, units of government, businesses, religious and education institutions, and individuals to work together to shape more effective approaches to preventing and addressing many of the most critical needs affecting Tulsans.

Among current CSC focus issues are early childhood development/school readiness, early intervention for children with disabilities, prenatal care, child and family health, child literacy, community schools, positive youth development, self-sufficiency for persons with disabilities, Tulsa’s growing Hispanic population, and the prevention of problems including substance abuse, child abuse, gangs, drunk driving, homelessness, and HIV/AIDS.  CSC also enhances Tulsa’s capacity to respond to emergencies through initiatives including the Human Response Coalition, Weather Coalition, and Heat Coalition.  Among the Council's many programs, some that are most widely-used and best-known include 2-1-1 Helpline and the Child Care Resource Center.
